Kratom Serving Sizes: Grams, Teaspoons & Capsules Explained

Kratom is sold by weight, so the most useful thing to know before you buy is how measurements convert: one level teaspoon of kratom powder weighs roughly 2 to 2.5 grams, and a standard size 00 capsule holds about 0.5 grams. This guide covers how grams, teaspoons, capsules and shots compare, and how to read the serving information on a Bedrock Botanicals label. For powder and capsule options, see our kratom collection.

This page is about measurement and labeling only. It does not recommend an amount for anyone. Follow the directions on the product label and talk to a healthcare professional with any questions about your own use.

How many grams are in a teaspoon of kratom powder?

A level teaspoon of finely milled kratom powder usually weighs between 2 and 2.5 grams. The exact weight changes with grind size, moisture and how tightly the powder is packed, which is why a heaping teaspoon can weigh close to twice a level one. A level tablespoon holds three teaspoons, or roughly 6 to 7.5 grams. A digital scale that reads to 0.1 gram is the only way to know an exact weight; spoons are an estimate.

Measure Approximate weight Notes
1 level teaspoon 2–2.5 g Varies with grind and moisture
1 level tablespoon 6–7.5 g Equal to 3 teaspoons
Size 0 capsule ~0.4 g Smaller capsule
Size 00 capsule ~0.5 g Most common capsule size
Size 000 capsule ~0.7 g Largest common size

How much powder is in a kratom capsule?

Capsule fill depends on capsule size and how densely the powder is packed. Size 00 capsules, the most common format, hold about 500 mg (0.5 g) of kratom powder. Bedrock-carried capsule products list the count per bottle and the weight per capsule on the label, so you can convert to grams without guessing. Our Kratom Gorilla Red Bali Jumbos are an example of a capsule product with the fill weight printed on the package.

How are kratom shots labeled?

Liquid kratom shots are labeled differently from powder. Instead of grams of leaf, a shot label lists a milligram figure for the extract in the bottle along with the bottle volume. Because extract and leaf are measured differently, a shot’s milligram number cannot be compared directly to grams of powder. Read each product’s label as its own reference. See the Kratom Gorilla Howler shot for an example of a shot label.

What should a kratom label tell you?

A well-made kratom label should list the product name and strain, the net weight or volume, the weight per capsule or serving, a lot or batch number, and manufacturer contact information. The American Kratom Association’s GMP standards and state Kratom Consumer Protection Acts push vendors toward clear labeling and lab testing. A batch number lets you match the product to its certificate of analysis (COA), which shows lab results for alkaloid content and contaminant screening.

Why do measurements vary between products?

Two products with the same weight can differ because of grind size, moisture content and alkaloid composition. Finer powder packs more densely into a spoon. Fresher powder can hold more moisture. And mitragynine percentage, listed on a COA, varies from batch to batch. That is why weighing beats scooping, and why the COA matters more than the strain name. Frequently asked questions

How many grams is a teaspoon of kratom?

Roughly 2 to 2.5 grams for a level teaspoon of fine powder. A scale gives the exact number.

How many capsules equal one teaspoon?

With size 00 capsules at about 0.5 g each, four to five capsules hold about the same weight as one level teaspoon.

Can I compare a shot to powder by milligrams?

No. Shots list extract milligrams and powder is measured in grams of leaf, so the numbers are not equivalent. Use each label on its own terms.

Where do I find the batch number?

On the bottle or bag, usually near the net weight. Use it to look up that batch’s COA.
